Whether you are looking for traditional single glazed sash windows for listed buildings or modern double or triple glazed  sash windows – Awlwood can help. Call us now 01271 860604

Traditional or modern

We manufacture both traditional single glazed Devon sash windows complete with weights, cord and pulleys for listed building etc, plus modern double or triple glazed Devon sash windows with either hollow box or solid frames for replacement or bespoke building projects, manufactured in quality hardwoods or Oak and fitted with weather seals and brush seals along with spiral spring balances which all conspire to give excellent weather proofing, smooth operation and longevity of use!

Custom made bespoke designs

We take great care to ensure that where required we can reproduce exact copies of your original window features such as horn details and box mouldings. In particular, the dimensions of our sash frames, meeting rails and glazing bars have been made as slim as possible with traditional mouldings slightly modified to accept double or triple glazed units using the latest glass technologies. Double glazed sashes are hung on spiral balances as standard due to the extra weight but we are able to offer lead weights, extra strong cord and pulleys if you so wish to keep the window looking more traditional. Our use of multiple weather seals and brush seals make the sashes easy to operate and draft free!

Advantages of wooden sliding sash windows

The timber/wooden sliding sash window has been around for many centuries and probably derived from the horizontal sliding sash window known as the Yorkshire sash. The sliding sash offers many advantages over casement windows and is better suited to the wet British climate as it can be closed allowing a small gap which offers excellent ventilation whilst keeping out the rain.

For the Victorians box sash windows were a central focus of the charm of their buildings and were addorned with lavish decoration inside and out, from curved horns to delicate mouldings and interior panneling to make their windows individual and to impress their guests.
